The future of fashion manufacturing

NEFFA is the only 3D manufacturing method allowing for seamless and custom products grown from home compostable mushroom roots and other biomaterials

MycoTEX by NEFFA

You might know NEFFA as MycoTEX, which is the name of the mycelium-based material that we produce. In the past three years we have become so much more than just a material though: we have evolved into a fully automated manufacturing method for all kinds of biofabricated materials. This is why we decided to change our name to NEFFA, which stands for New Fashion Factory. The name MycoTEX is now only used to describe the mycelium-based material that is made for the NEFFA manufacturing system.

OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Wouldn’t we all like to envision a world where anyone can feel good in the clothes they wear, because they fit them perfectly and reflect their taste, are made close to where they live, without exploiting anyone, yet they are still affordable and do not harm, but maybe even benefit, the environment?

This spectacular animation by Talsand beautifully visualizes this bright future. But it is not just a dream! In fact, NEFFA is very close to making this a reality! We already produced the first full 3D, home compostable garment, based on a body scan and later this year we will launch our first robotic manufacturing cell together with our German manuacturing partner.

MycoTEX is not just a material, but a holistic solution for the entire fashion supply chain.

Local for Local

Producing fashion locally has not been done at scale, due to high labor costs, a lack of skilled workers and the fact that all supplies generally still need to come from Asia. MycoTEX solves this puzzle: raw materials can be grown locally through fermentation and its manufacturing method is fully automated, without any weaving or stitching, in an ultra transparent system that also eliminates the risk of centralizing production in one region only.

Scalable

MycoTEX products can be manufactured by adding a few extensions to existing machines that are already used in the industry. This allows us to scale fast, because existing factories can easily implement our method and could also start new local manufacturing plants without making huge investments.

Custom
Every season, countless pieces of clothing and footwear go to waste because they are not the right size or color. MycoTEX can work fully on demand, making each item custom to size and taste, thus minimizing returns. We can also create shapes and textures that could not be achieved with traditional methods.

Harmless
Unlike the traditional fashion industry, MycoTEX does not need any farmland, pesticides or hazardous chemicals and uses less water. The products do not need to be washed in the machine, but can just be wiped clean. After usage they can be home composted.
